Question: Can personality traits be passed down though genes?

Keywords: , ,

  1. Dear Boobsta; I suppose so. However the same living environment must affect as much as the genes in forming personality.

I heard women saying something like this about their sons; “He(son) walks like his father, talks like his father, as mean as his father!” Well, it is not a very kind comment about their children of family with good reputation. However, it strongly point out that the personality traits passed down through genes. Don’t you think so?

  2. Great question! You clearly have an amazing brain to come up with a question like this.

The answer is yes. Read this story that came out in a newspaper https://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/science-news/9267147/Its-nature-not-nurture-personality-lies-in-genes-twins-study-shows.html

By looking at twins, they can study a question like this. So twins are genetically identical, same set of genes. But often their environment is slightly different, so they may have been brought up with different parents (adoption), different jobs, different lives etc. But they found in these studies that a lot of twins had very similar characters even though their environment was very different.

And scarily enough, even serial killers could be serial killers because of their genes
