Question: Do you think that global warming will eventually take it's toll and flood earth?? By the time that happens do you think that everyone will die? or will there be another way to live??

  1. what a morbid question…..
mmm, I think global warming is already taking it’s toll (more storms, floods, droughts, islands under water), but I don’t think it will wipe out humanity! At least not yet. I think scientists are working really hard to come up with ideas to capture the carbon dioxide particles from the air and storing it somewhere safe. I think the more the government can see global warming is taking its toll, the more money they will put into research to come up with a solution!

  2. Climate change is already having a huge impact on our planet, with more extreme weather, ecosystems shifting to accommodate changes. We know that our polar icecaps are melting. Antarctica has about 70% of the worlds fresh water water caught as ice. It’s unlikely to completely melt any time soon, but certainly parts of it would break away as our planet warms. Ice from the Arctic tends to float on water already, so taking into account water displacement, the Arctic ice melting probably wouldn’t do much to water levels, but it would destroy the habitats for many plants and animals that currently rely on the ice sheet. There’s also lots of ice caught places like Greenland. If all of our ice melted tomorrow, we’d probably be in trouble, but it will be gradual. Whilst we may lose many species as climate changes, humans are pretty adaptable, and I’m sure we’d find some way to keep on living. The problems will be that the way we farm will have to change, as current species become inappropriate to grow in our current farming areas.

  3. Dear Boobsta; The global warming already threatens the earth. The safety of Tuvalu, a polynesian country of islands, is seriously affected due to the rise of sea level. They are trying hard to immigrate the residents of low place to other parts of the island, artificially made.

The iceberg melting will be accelerated at some point unless we stop this global warming through international cooperation. Anyway, even if the worst comes, it will be a process predictable. It won’t be like a Tsunami.

How about keep moving up to higher place until some solution is found?

  4. Climate change (which is what we call ‘global warming’ now, since there’s more to it than just warming) is already having an effect on the planet. For instance, the warming is leading to an unprecedented reduction in the Arctic sea ice level. We’re seeing more instances of wild weather across the planet; higher high temperatures (many of the warmest years on record are in the last decade), wetter colder winters in northern climates, more droughts, rises in sea levels, extinctions of species as their habitats disappear, and more.

Will the earth flood? Well, even if all the sea ice melts, it’ll probably raise sea levels by no more than about 200 feet or 61 metres . That’s still a catastrophic rise that would wipe out large coastal areas (for example, most of the interesting parts of Sydney would abruptly find themselves under water). Since we humans like to live on coastal areas, this would be a serious problem for us. We’d lose a lot of habitable area, a lot of farming area, and there would probably be famines and more deaths than there should be. I’ll also have a lot fewer animals to study, since many animals are already being wiped out as it is as their habitat disappears or as they’re forced into competition for shrinking habitats with each other and with other species; a 200 foot rise in sea levels would only make this much worse.

That’s a worst case scenario, though, and it’s unlikely that all of the ice will melt, though these things are extremely difficult to predict; even if it does, we’ll see it coming soon enough to find a way to respond in some way. I can tell you that everyone won’t die, but I can’t tell you that it won’t be terrible. It would be much better for everyone if we were to find a way to stop this process before it happens! But yes, if we keep going like we are and refuse to do anything about it, I’m afraid that there could be some terrible effects.
