I’m a Scientist is like school science lessons meet the X Factor! School students choose which scientist gets a prize of $1000 to communicate their work.
Scientists and students talk on this website. They both break down barriers, have fun and learn. But only the students get to vote.
This zone is the Disease Zone. It has scientists studying the causes and processes of illness . Who gets the prize? YOU decide!
I presume weieghr is weight?
very simply…..gaining weight means that you eat more energy than you burn!
The difficulty is, different people burn energy at a different rate. So you can have 2 people eating the same diet and one is thin and the other one is fat. I know it’s totally unfair.
About 60% of energy in your body is used just to maintain your body (making new cells, digesting food, your organs). About 30% of your energy is used for physical activity, such as walking and running and the other 10% is excess energy your body burns to make sure you don’t get fat.
In some people, the mechanism to burn excess fat is very effective and they seem to be able to eat whatever they want and not gain weight because their body simply burns the excess energy. In other people, this mechanism is not so effective, they have a very slow metabolism. This means that they will easily gain weight when they eat too much. Weight gain is simply excess energy being stored in fat cells.
Unfortunately, the older you get, the slower your metabolism will be and the harder it will be to maintain your weight or to lose weight! That’s why so many children and teenagers are not fat, but a lot of adults are a little pudgy or fat!
