While keeping muscle won’t automatically help someone have less serious effects from their cancer, it can certainly help. To start, people with more muscle can normally go through more cancer treatment, so they are more likely to get well than patients who are losing all of their muscle and have to stop treatment. People with more muscle can also stay more active, and feel like they have more energy, which can help them feel better and keep doing things that they would normally do, something that we call “Quality of Life”. Having more muscle might not directly help someone have less serious cancer, but it can help.
