hehehehe, unfortunately the pills are already very expensive. The pills I’m using, called deferasirox, cost more than $1000 for a box of 24 pills!
The reason for this is, because not many people in the world need this type of pill (it’s an iron chelator drug), so the drug company can ask for lots of money.
Now, if this drug works in people who are overweight and helps them to lose weight, the drug company might decrease the price, because now more people want the drug. So they can sell more of the drug and still get rich!

I think this question is for Natasha – I don’t make pills in my work I just give the doctor results so they can decide which ones to use for treatments!

We are very lucky with EPA, because it can actually be quite cheap compared to other drugs. You can get EPA from fish oil and krill oil, or they also make very concentrated pills too! Because it has been around for so long, and is used for so many other things, it is no longer protected by a ‘patent’, meaning any company can make it and sell it, which in turn means lower prices. Now, this is a bit more economics than science, so I’ll leave pricing there, but at the end of the day, the drug that we are working on is readily available, and quite cheap, so hopefully lots of people will be able to afford them š
